报告题目(中文):英国散列中子源的材料工程研究

报告题目(英文):Neutrons for Materials Engineering Research at ISIS

报告内容简介:ISIS Pulsed Neutron Source is the most productive source of its kind in the world. ISIS produces beams of pulsed neutrons and neutron scattering provides unique information on the structure and dynamics of condensed matter at the atomic and molecular level. The Engin-X instrument at ISIS is a world leading neutron diffractometer purpose-built for stress evaluation in the context of materials science and engineering research. The success of ENGIN-X has led to dedicated engineering instruments being built at neutron sources in six other countries, although none can match the performance and versatility of ENGIN-X. Over the last decade Engin-X has continually redefined the frontier of stress measurement capability through investment in state-of-the-art equipment to alter the conditions under which experiments are carried out. These include a rotation robot, furnaces, cryostats, and hydraulic stress-rigs for testing material performance under simulated in-service loading. Engin-X has attracted academic and industrial users from 24 countries to address a wide range of engineering problems: new welding technologies; thermal cycling of materials; fatigue crack initiation and propagation; the development of strain measurement standards etc. In order to introduce neutron imaging capabilities at ISIS and to complement the existing materials analysis facilities, the first neutron tomography instrument at a pulsed neutron source is being built for the ISIS Second Target Station. The new instrument, IMAT, will be a state-of-the art combined instrument for cold neutron radiography, energy-selective imaging and diffraction analysis for materials science, materials processing, and engineering studies. Some recent science highlights will be reviewed, including: assessment of fracture mechanics in collaboration with TWI, tomography driven diffraction, investigation of transformation plasticity in TRIP steels under cryogenic temperature, stress relaxation through ageing heat treatment, etc. The new developments in neutron facilities, such as the Chinese Spallation Neutron Source in Dongguan and the opportunities for China-UK scientific collaboration will also be described.

报告人姓名:Shu Yan Zhang

报告人简介(中文):Shu Yan is a senior scientist for the ENGIN-X beamline at ISIS. She is the ISIS representative for the Engineering Facility Access Panels at ISIS and also the member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel for the European Spallation Source. Following a DPhil in Engineering Science at University of Oxford, Shu Yan joined ISIS in 2008 as a post-doc and was promoted to become instrument scientist in the same year. In 2012 she was promoted to be a senior scientist in recognition of her valued contribution to build bridges between ISIS and Industry by generating impact through science. She has close collaborative links with the nuclear, aerospace and steel industries; in particular with EDF Energy, AREVA (France), Rolls Royce, Tata Steel and TWI. Shu Yan has made a major contribution to raising awareness of residual stress effects and advancing neutron and synchrotron x-ray measurement techniques for stress measurement. Currently she has 12 research grants and supervises PhD students. She is internationally recognized in the field. She has published over 70 papers. In the last 5 years, she has been involved in the organization of 5 international conferences and given 13 keynote/invited lectures at international conferences. She is also frequently invited by industry to give talks at their seminars.
