报告题目(中文)Solidification Cracking in Welds of Aluminum Alloys
报告内容简介:Cracking can occur during solidification of Al alloys in both welding and casting. Key aspects of solidification cracking in Al welds will be presented in two parts. The first part is the introduction to solidification cracking in Al welds, including the characteristics of cracks, crack susceptibility tests and reduction of cracking. The second part is the prediction of crack susceptibility. An index for predicting the crack susceptibility of Al welds recently proposed by UW-Madison will be discussed. The index is the maximum │dT/d(fS)1/2│ of an Al alloy, where T is temperature and fS the fraction of solid. The higher the index, the greater the tendency to crack. Curves of T vs. (fS)1/2 of Al alloys can be plotted to find the maximum steepness │dT/d(fS)1/2│ using commercial thermodynamic software package Pandat and Al database PanAluminum.

报告人简介(中文)Sindo Kou received PhD from MIT, and BS in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University. He has been with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at University of Wisconsin-Madison since 1983, where he served as department chair in 2000-2004. Kou authored two textbooks: Welding Metallurgy and Transport Phenomena and Materials Processing (both published by John Wiley). Kou received numerous honors and awards from the American Welding Society, including Honorary Membership Award (2016), Adams Lecture Award (2012), Fellow (2002), Lincoln Gold Medal (2016), and Spraragen Award (2016, 2007). Kou also received Arata Award from International Welding Institute (2017), Light Metals Magnesium Best Paper from TMS (2017), Chalmers Award from TMS (2013), Chancellors’ Award for Distinguished Teaching from University of Wisconsin (1999), Fellow of ASM International (1998), and John Chipman Award from Iron and Steel Society (1980).
